Saithe is a member of the codlike fishes family and is closely related to cod. It lives in swarms and can be found in cold to moderate sea regions, for example around Iceland, Spitsbergen, Norway and in the North Sea.

They grow up to 1,30 meters and can reach more than 25 years of age. Saithe has a pearl grey tender meat, which turns white when being cooked. With its savoury taste it is one of the most popular food fishes.
